I don’t like Pokemon anymore

PokemonIt occured to me that I stopped liking Pokémon a while ago. Sure we all grow up eventually, but it was a big part of my childhood, you know? I was literally part of the first Pokemon generation, if you could call it that. The anime show still rocked, we’d all play the games on our Game Boys, we’d collect the cards even though we had no idea how to play… and we were so excited about the first movie that we went and saw it three times… Pokemon was our world.

The last Pokemon game I finished was Sapphire for the GBA. Recently I tried playing Pokemon Platinum for the DS, but I couldn’t play it anymore. It felt like I had all done it before… Like I was playing the same game for the second time. Sure enough, when you look at the formula behind Pokemon you can tell it’s barely been changed. They’ve only added minor additions such as dual battles and the sort. Of course there isn’t anything wrong with that, but haven’t you been inching to play Pokemon in 3D? I’m talking about a real 3D RPG, much like the 2D games. It worked with Zelda and Mario, so why wouldn’t it work with Pokemon? And no, I don’t mean that Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness shit where you steal them off other trainers only to purify them.

Ugh, the anime pretty much went downhill after people found out it was as shallow as the Zelda CDi games. It’s basically the same deal episode after episode. Ash is on the road and finds a person/pokemon in troube while team Rocket wants to steal Pikachu for the millionth time. Bear in mind that the first season was all right though, especially when you’re younger. The first movie was pretty awesome in that regard as well, but the second and third were a bit worse… and after that it followed the anime downhill where they now both live as homeless people looking for attention. The trading card game I never really cared about, so I can’t vouch for that.

Perhaps I’m getting too old… I see people talk about this IV stuff, but I’ve never even used that before. The biggest addition to the series yet, online, doesn’t excite me either. It almost seems as if Nintendo is becoming lazier and lazier. They release the games like this now:

Release new game in two versions > Release a special third version > Release remake of an earlier game

Don’t take this post too seriously, by the way. It’s just a small rant that’s been on my mind for a while. I’m hoping Soul Silver and Heart Gold will be good since I loved the GBC versions of those. What’s your opinion on this matter? Do you still like Pokémon?

Recent going-ons

DSi LLHey there, how ya doin’? Anything exciting happen to you the past few days? No, well, excuse me for asking then! I’ve got a tidbit of new information for ya’ll though. If all goes well you should be seeing a couple ‘o intersting posts from another editor that isn’t me in disguise! Yes, great succes, I know. Hopefull this’ll liven things up a bit since the blog’s been awfully quiet the past few months.

Here’s some other unrelated news: Nintendo has shamelessly announced the DSi LL. It’s basically a DSi for people with really huge hands, or really bad eye vision. It weighs about the same as the old PSP so you’ll even build op some muscle using it. I’m just joking of course, but there’s one thing bothering me: why? Why would Nintendo release another DS? I mean, the DSi hasn’t even been out yet a full year. I understand that Nintendo is a company that wants money, but who asked for this? While it’s true that some people have been complaining about the DS’s screen size… Since when does Nintendo listen to their fans? And even then those same people that wanted it seem to be the ones disliking it. I don’t get it.

I won’t be buying one anytime soon though, Nintendo mark my words. People don’t want to another DS, the DSi LL will fail. I mean, Sony’s bad with their PSP GO, but the DSi LL offers nothing new; the ‘old’ DSi can do the same, is smaller and cheaper. It seems all Nintendo wants these days is money. Well, Nintendo’s at their best when they’re doing bad financially. Remember Pikmin, or Majora’s Mask? They’re games Nintendo created in times of financial problems. I guess it’s a double-edged sword…

Autumn clean-up

Hey there, nice to see you again. :-) As you may have noticed, I was sort of MIA the last few months. If all goes well the blog should get updated again, though I sort of changed servers today since the last server kind of sucked when uploading files, but this one seems to be fine. All of the previous posts have been imported, so if you haven’t read those, feel free to do it now. I lost the images however, so just imagine them when reading the posts. :-P

Until next time.

Bye, bye PSP…

I recently lost PSP. Yes, PSP: my Playstation Portable. We had some great times together, but in the end we had to depart. It’s better this way, right? Yeah, I thought so. All good things come to an end, don’t they?

Say, are you interested in our story? I figured you were. Now, take a seat and let me tell you about my love/hate relationship with PSP.

It’s early 2006. I had just quit my job at the local supermarket due to exams and I was sitting on quite a lot of money. Well, considering I was 16 at the time, it felt like a lot of money. Anyways, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with the money. No, I did now want an Xbox 360. No, I did not want a new cellphone. The thing I wanted – no, lets call it a she – had beautiful graphics, could play all my music and would play all my movies. She went under the name of Playstation Portable. But I prefered to call her PSP.

PSP was a real lady. She was unlike anything else I had seen before. Yes, I had met DS. But she had her flaws. DS was bulky whereas PSP was slender. DS looked cute whereas PSP looked pretty damn sexy. DS also had this weird dillema with her micophone. It seemed like all the games back when the DS launched had to use it. This annoyed me and really hurt our relationship. Oh! Looking back I should’ve given you more love! She had two screens, a touchscreen and was more fun to play around with. Yes, I realize that last sentence sounds really awkward.

But PSP! My love… When I bought you, you immediately disappointed me. Yes, for no reason whatsoever your lovely skin had to crack, forcing me to return you to the cold and lonely store. We had to depart, understand it love. You would soon get replaced by another model. No, it’s not your fault. She looks identical to you! If I didn’t know any better you two could’ve been twins! Sorry, my dear…

Your replacement did not disappoint. We had fun together for a while! We listened to music, we watched movies, we even browsed the internet together. It didn’t matter you had to be charged every four hours! The time we spent together felt like an eternity! Alas, my love. You failed to please at one single, but crucial point; you sucked at playing games.

When I bought you, I didn’t think clearly. I didn’t think about your awful deformed child; the UMD. Yes, your child never matured. It was slow at everything, it was prone to sratches and basically required all your energy. I understand it’s not your fault, love. UMD was like a parasite. It’s too bad we couldn’t ditch it.

I tried, honestly I tried. It just didn’t work out. Please don’t take this personally, but your father, Sony, refused to change. He didn’t want you to stop using UMD’s. Instead he kept claiming the format was alive and well. We were made for each other, PSP. But UMD… Argh!!

It was a rainy day. You refused to play Metal Gear Solid and I just couldn’t take it anymore. I put you back into your box and left you there on the street. I felt awful, honestly I didn’t want to leave you… Sony found you though.

Enter PSP GO. Sony’s answer. I dont know what he did to you love, but he slaughtered you. Sure, UMD was gone, but why did you look so alien? It’s all your father’s fault, don’t blame yourself. I’m sure there are plenty of guys out there who still love you. As for me… I’m going back to DS. Yes, I should’ve never left her…

Rest in peace, PSP…
